Shimponauts Journey

With this production Majmoon leads its audience through a daydream. The trios energetic and dynamic sound is probably best described as a mix of post-rock, noise and instrumental music.
Torn between relaxing passages and tremendous noise eruptions the musicians weave a thick carpet of sound which carries the listeners through space, catapults them into higher spheres like the eruption of a volcano or quietly accompanies them on their floating fantasies, like the twinkling of the stars on chimponauts journey through space.
Fans on Majmoon:
Whoever sees and hears Majmoon live in action will understand what a daydream is! Yes, we will believe what the band says and see each other again in 45 minutes, in the meantime there is nothing but feeling.
Torn between relaxing passages and tremendous noise eruptions we are invited to follow the four musicians on their journey. Instrumental music the fact that this band has no singer is no drawback, on the contrary, the music is so expressive that even without someone singing, you know what its about. A fantastic bass player that is not easily matched, the rangy but also brute work on the guitar leaves room for the playfully dealing with uneven beats at the drums. You are swept away by an enraged monster but suddenly everything becomes peaceful and quiet again perfect!
The more you get into the songs the deeper you get tied up in a lovingly woven web of guitar-arpeggios, solid groovy bass lines and rare pretty melodies that lift and hold everything together. Just like in a dream there is always something new to discover. MAJMOON in my opinion right now the best band in Munich! Come to the next concert enjoy the dream go home refreshed.
majmoon about majmoon
Majmoon play the kind of music that Ham chimponaut, the first monkey to travel to space in January 1961, may have listened to.
The Guitar: Josip Pavlov stands in the foreground with his sometimes endearing melodious sometimes rhythmical hard guitar sounds and with the sound pictures he creates. His musical background from the Balkan is an important inspiration.
The Bass: Andreas Schuster sometimes plays a hard bass, influenced by hardcore (punk), but then suddenly moves over into melodious, softly touched notes. The bass then takes on the role of a melody-instrument that stands in dialogue with the guitar. He has been playing bass and guitar since he was 17 and is a pure autodidact. Hes working in the event-branch of a Munich environmental protection association. He has played with rock, punk and hardcore bands, like 1328 (hardcore Munich current 2nd project), Gorilla Monsoon (hardcore, Munich), No Compromise (hardcore, Munich), Mental Home (rock, Markt Schwaben near Munich), Extra Dry (rock, Markt Schwaben near Munich).
The Drums:
Burkhard Hill, the drummer, has played jazz and world-music and is returning to his rock-roots with Majmoon. He prefers to play dynamically and interpret the uneven beats / times so that the complexity of the rhythm does not become obvious right away. He has been playing the drums and percussion instruments since he was 16 and is an autodicact except for one year of lessons from a private teacher (Thanks to Uli Vogeltanz!) In normal life he is a social worker and university professor. He looks back on long years of experience in rock, blues and jazz bands, e.g. RENNQUINTETT (new wave, Kassel), PRETTY-BAD-TONES (blues, Kassel), MIX-FIVE (fusion, Kassel), ALASIM (world-music, Kassel), MHM (rock-jazz-fusion, Neubrandenburg), Swingtime (jazz, Neubrandenburg), SANKOFA (Afro-Brazilian-drumming, Neubrandenburg), Werner Rausch Quintett (jazz, Munich), JAZZ-MUC-FONKY (funkjazz, Munich)
Reviews:
Rhythmical, highly complicated post-rock is what the Munich band Majmoon performs. Its impossible to count all the rythm changes. But still: its not irritation just to irritate, not distinction as a cause of its own. The song really rocks! ((www.klangdynamik.de about the song 3 Million Hits Milchmann-Records-Sampler)
The probably most extraordinary band in Munich inspires again and again with its sophisticated instrumental sound that has its roots in hardcore and punk. (www.sunny-red.de, Juni 2006)
Majmoon makes instrumental, exceptionally melodic rock, with complex math-parts at the one hand and the lengthy, almost meditative parts at the other, the kind of sound that bands like Explosions in the Sky or Mogwai are known for. (Joeri Adriaanse, Netherland Fanzine Author)(. June 2006)
